Orientation – compass and GPS

The adventurer in you dreams of exploring new horizons? It’s only prudent to know how to use a compass and a GPS before going off the beaten path. Don’t panic, Massif du Sud Regional Park offers a complete training program to help you master these tools. From now on, you’ll be able to give in to the call of the great outdoors in a safe manner.

  • The topographic map
  • UTM topographic coordinate systems
  • The 3 Norths
  • The compass
  • The GPS
  • Practical exercises and field trip

What you need to know

Duration: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $100 per participant
Distance to be covered: +/- 8 km
Elevation gain : +/- 250 meters

What to bring: Long clothes; hat, cap or scarf; hiking boots; water; food; notebook and pencil to take notes; backpack; sunglasses and sunscreen; compass and GPS (if you have them)
Number of participants and minimum age: 12 participants/10 years
