The Eco-Friendly Runner’s Guide

With a strong focus on preserving our cherished natural spaces, the Trail du Massif du Sud introduces several measures to reduce your impact on the park’s trails. After the race, all that should remain is your sense of accomplishment!

Waste Management

Experienced trail runners know the importance of carrying out all their gear (equipment, containers, packaging, etc.). Pay special attention to your gel wrappers. And if you see any on the trail, consider picking them up! Tip: Carry a Ziploc bag to collect your waste along the way.

The Trail organization will provide various resources at hydration and aid stations, but no cups! Please bring the necessary equipment to hydrate:

  • A foldable and reusable cup: Crush it and store it in a pocket of your shorts. Pull it out at the aid stations to quench your thirst!
  • Various running belts or vests allow you to carry a good supply of water and snacks (homemade to avoid packaging!). This way, aid stations will only be used to refill your bottle!
  • For those who use gels frequently, some brands offer them in larger volumes, and small reusable bottles are perfect for home refilling. Personal tip: Fill them with a mixture of maple syrup, ginger, and salt!
  • Bring a reusable water bottle for after your arrival.
  • Finally, sorting stations will be available at the main race site. To help us divert as much waste as possible from landfills, please take a moment to ensure your waste is placed in the correct bin.

Transportation

Since the park’s beautiful playground is located several kilometers from major urban centers, we strongly encourage you to maximize your trip by carpooling. The discussion thread on the event’s Facebook page is a good place to post your carpooling offers or needs.

Are you a local runner? Why not warm up by biking to the event!

Medals and Other Promotional Items

The Trail du Massif du Sud organizers have made an eco-friendly choice not to provide promotional items to all participants.

Only the top three finishers in each of the official races will receive a medal from Groupe Océan – 32 km, 22 km, 11 km, and 6 km – as well as all children completing the 2 km race.
There will be no medals for walkers in the 6 km participatory event.
What we hope you remember is the accomplishment of taking on the challenge of running in the forest, enjoying nature, and sharing this passion with others.
