Trail du Massif du Sud presented by Desjardins: a record-breaking 8th edition with over 680 participants!
Saint-Philémon, August 24, 2024 – Under a radiant sun, Parc du Massif du Sud welcomed 680 participants out of 750 registrants—a new registration record—for the 8th edition of the Trail du Massif du Sud, presented by Desjardins. Conditions were ideal for runners and walkers embarking on this sporting adventure in the heart of our territory.
A total of 152 runners successfully completed the challenge of reaching the park’s three summits—the Crête des Grives (828 m), Mont Saint-Magloire (917 m), and Mont Chocolat (717 m)—by finishing the 32 km race in collaboration with Sports Experts / Atmosphère Lévis.
The 11 km race, held in partnership with EDF Renouvelables, was the most popular, with 196 participants, while 82 children and adults completed the participatory events, including the 2 km kids’ run and the 6 km walk organized with URLS de la Chaudière-Appalaches.
Additionally, 182 participants completed the 22 km Sports Experts / Atmosphère Carrefour St-Georges race, and 135 runners crossed the finish line of the 6 km Desjardins race.
EDF Renouvelables x Parc éolien Massif du Sud presented all the podium medals for both male and female categories, as well as medals to all children participating in the 2 km event.
Jean-François Préfontaine, General Director of Parc du Massif du Sud and Race Director, celebrated the success:
“With 750 participants this year, we reached a new peak. It was wonderful to welcome nearly 1,000 people on site, including runners, friends, and families. Thanks to meticulous preparation and optimized signage, the event ran smoothly and in a fantastic atmosphere. We are very proud to have offered a memorable experience to everyone, whether they are regular visitors or newcomers.”
For Daniel Pouliot, Mayor of Saint-Philémon and Chair of the Board of the Corporation for the Development and Planning of Massif du Sud (CADMS), the 8th edition of the Trail du Massif du Sud was a resounding success:
“It is a great pride to see so many people discover our beautiful region through this exceptional sporting event! This year, with a record number of participants, we demonstrated how welcoming our park and community are. The addition of new facilities, including extra parking spaces, was especially appreciated for easing organization and improving the experience for everyone. I warmly congratulate all participants for their performance and enthusiasm and am thrilled to see our event continue to grow and attract new enthusiasts.”
Marc Bouchard, General Director of Caisse Desjardins – Bellechasse, added:
“Desjardins is proud to support sporting events that bring our community together and showcase our beautiful region. The Trail du Massif du Sud perfectly embodies the values of perseverance, solidarity, and commitment that we share. Congratulations to all participants for their determination and remarkable enthusiasm, and well done to the Parc du Massif du Sud team for the organization and success of this event!”
